One Great Hour of Sharing

This is a worldwide Sunday of support for UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) in prayer and donations. It takes care of the administrative cost of the organization, so that all second mile giving can go entirely to UMCOR’s many mission projects.

4 x 4 x 4

A program to connect Berea Children’s Home and Family Service to services PROJECTS through the Nehemiah Mission of Cleveland to United Methodist Churches. BCHFS has youth who need skill development, mentors/role models, and exposure to serving others. 4x4x4 matches 4 adult volunteers from our church with 4 youths for 4 Saturday work projects. A typical Saturday morning involves: Meeting at Nehemiah House, opening prayer, introduction to days objectives, team building and skill training, drive to worksite, doing job, clean-up, then lunch served at site.

If you feel moved to participate in one of these groups of four, contact John Borgert.

Elder Care Program

Elder Care Ministry is an exciting outreach ministry of WHUMC. We currently have the opportunity to bring Christ to eight assisted living facilities in Lake, Cuyahoga, and Geauga counties. One hundred and fifty residents are ministered to twice a month. A regular collateral blessing to this ministry is the opportunity to also share the faith with staff and family members. Christ is offered and shared through scripture, song, prayer, and fellowship.

For participation in this ministry contact John Borgert.

The Salvation Army

Willoughby Hills United Methodist Church helps ring in the season by ringing the Salvation Army Bell on selected weekends during the Advent season. Volunteers sign up to help collect for this year round humanitarian organization.

Potato Sunday St. Andrew's Society

St. Andrews Society harvests produce from fields that have already been gleamed to feed the hungry. Millions of servings are distributed annually. In November, WHUMC celebrates, “Soup Sunday”, to further the mission of St. Andrews. A delicious lunch is served and donations are collected in support of St. Andrews Society.

Mitten Tree

As the weather gets cold so do little hands. This mission effort collects cold weather clothing as well as other articles of clothing to distribute to those in need.

Project Hope

Project Hope is a homeless shelter located in Painesville that provides nightly refuge for about 30 people from October through May each year.

Meals are provided by various churches throughout the district. WHUMC provides a hot dinner, breakfast and lunch for the next day every third Sunday of each month.

Willoughby Food Pantry

A food pantry for the needy operates out of Willoughby United Methodist Church. The first Sunday of each month non-perishable foods, paper products and household supplies are donated by members of the Church to this cause. Financial support for this mission is also appreciated.

Youth Mission Trips

Willoughby Hills United Methodist Church offers many opportunities for the youth to participate in mission. Projects include Salkehatchie Summer Service in June, and Handyworks projects throughout the year.
